My name is Adrianus Hayon, and my nickname is “Ardy”. I am from East Flores-NTT-Indonesia. I joined the SVD (Divine Word Missionaries) as a postulant in 1996 after I had finished Senior High School. After three years as a postulant and novice, I took my first vows on 15 August 1999 at Nenuk-Timor-Indonesia. Then, I studied philosophy for four years (1999-2003) at the Institute of Theology and Philosophy of Ledalero-Maumere-Flores-Indonesia before being sent to Japan for OTP (Overseas Training Program). After finishing my OTP in two years (2004-2006), I decided to continue my theological studies at Nanzan University in Nagoya. I professed final vows as an SVD on August 11, 2007, and was ordained a priest in October of 2009 at Nanzan Church in Nagoya. My first assignment was Akita Church as an assistant parish priest, and I worked there for about two years (2010-2012). I was appointed to Kichijouji Church on April of 2012.
There is a saying that “Youth is an opportunity” : As a young man, St. Francis of Assisi enjoyed his life. But when he realized the emptiness in his life, he found fulfillment only when he offered himself to the service of God. Also in the story of Samuel, God called him when he was still young-young both physically and spiritually. The bible says that Samuel did not recognize the voice of the Lord because it was not yet been revealed to him. In other words, he had not known God personally. God, however, kept calling Samuel until he answered.
God can call anyone at any time to do anything. “Now is an opportunity” for you among the young people to answer God’s calling. Respond to it in the same way Samuel did: “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening.”
